Just south of Tryon Creek State Park is the historic First Addition neighborhood. This neighborhood includes a vibrant town center; it’s a short walk to the “Village Center” area of offices, shops, markets and restaurants.
Residents of Lake Oswego and Portland alike favor the park’s nature trails between Boones Ferry Road and Terwilliger Blvd. In fair weather, cyclists take to the paved trail along the park’s eastern edge. The Friends of Tryon Creek State Park operate a nature store, summer youth day camps, school tours, guided nature walks and special events.
First Addition was so named because it was where “additional” workers lived when a local iron foundry boomed briefly in the late 1880s. Remnants of the foundry may still be seen a nearby on the Willamette River at George Rogers Park, in the adjacent Old Town neighborhood.
