Lake Grove was platted in 1912 as a development on the western end of Oswego Lake, near the railroad line. Early on, as the area developed and the automobile became the dominant mode of transportation, Lake Grove’s commercial and residential development continued along (Lower) Boone’s Ferry Road, which is the main artery of Lake Grove.
Besides a town center, Lake Grove’s identity is evident in the name of institutions such as Lake Grove Elementary School (which dates back to at least the 1920s), the Lake Grove Neighborhood Association (though parts of the Lake Grove area are within other neighborhood associations such as the Waluga), the Lake Grove Rural Fire District, the Lake Grove Water District and the Lake Grove Post Office serving ZIP code 97035. All these elements combined often give Lake Grove the feeling of being a separate town from Lake Oswego.
The Lake Grove Elementary School is located in this area, it has the most students and is the largest elementary school in the Lake Oswego School District. The Lake Grove Swim Park is operated by the Lake Oswego School District and is open to the public from June through Labor Day.
