Close to downtown Portland, the Eliot neighborhood shares many of the same attributes as the Portland real estate in Boise, and the two are often referred to as Boise-Eliot. Both have been embraced by the creative class.
The urban revival of this section of North Portland can trace its beginning to the 1990s designation of the Mississippi Historic District. Eliot reflects the diversity of its neighbors on the popular and trendy retail strip of N. Mississippi, which cuts through both the Boise and Eliot neighborhoods. Closer to the waterfront, the Widmer Gasthaus Pub and McMenamin’s Eagle Saloon and Hotel have been long standing institutions of the neighborhood.
