Irvington is an upscale family oriented community in the heart of Northeast. The Irvington neighborhood is named for Captain William Irving, a Scottish steamboat captain who bought property in Portland 1849 and began a lumber transport business.
The Lloyd Center shopping mall is nearby and the main commercial streets — N.E. Broadway, N.E. Fremont and N.E. Sandy — offer a variety of small boutiques, restaurants and coffee shops, where residents mingle.

Grant Park is on N.E. 33rd next to Grant High School near N.E. Broadway. Almost 20 acres, it features tennis courts, a running track, soccer and softball fields and picnic tables. The park was the setting for many scenes in the Ramona series of children’s books by Beverly Cleary and features sculptures of some of her characters, including, of course, Ramona.
