Notable features in the rural outlying community of Helvetia are the church, cemetery, the Rice Mineral Museum, Helvetia Vineyards and Winery and the Helvetia Tavern.  Swiss and German immigrants settled the rolling foothills of Helvetia in the late 1800s. Prior to prohibition, the community was also known as Grape Hill because of the area’s cottage wine industry. These hills have become 70 acres of forest, vineyards, and Christmas tree and agriculture farms.  The slopes range from 500 to 750 feet in elevation.

Another historical feature in Helvetia is on rural Dick Road, The Holcomb Creek Train Trestle. This still used timber pile-driven trestle in eastern Washington County is one of the largest and longest spanning 1168 feet and 90 feet high.
