The Arlington Heights neighborhood sits on the edge of downtown Portland and the Goose Hollow neighborhood’s western boundary. Portland real estate in this neighborhood is among the city’s most refined. In any city other than understated Portland, these homes would be called mansions. Many are greater than 4,000-square feet and range in style from vintage Craftman through suburban contemporary.

Just minutes from downtown, the homes in scenic Arlington are within walking distance of some of the city’s best known attractions. Practically in their own backyards, residents have Portland’s International Rose Test Gardens, Washington Park, Hoyt Arboretum, the Japanese Gardens, and the Oregon Zoo.

Many of the streets offer a convenient access to the ten miles of trails in the 183 acre Hoyt Arboretum. Arlington Heights residents can walk to work (all downhill) and take the bus home.  Some even ride their bike to work.  If you’re up for it, you can hike down to one of the many restaurants on Northwest 21st and 23rd Avenue and enjoy an evening meal.  You just have to remember the uphill walk home.

For shopping and services the Bethany Village Center at S.W. Barnes and S.W. Miller Road is convenient with a QFC, a veterinary clinic, dry cleaners, Sandoval’s Café and Occasions Fine Gifts.

Additionally, the Uptown Shopping Center on West Burnside and N.W. 23 rd Ave. is nearby with its boutiques and services; Zupan’s market is just across the street. This is also the beginning of the retail corridor of N.W. 23rd Ave and the many restaurants that line that street as well N.W. 21st Ave.

There are several locally owned home furnishing and design stores in the Northwest neighborhood worth a visit: Bedford-Brown for custom design and furnishing; Jerry Lamb for antiques; also h.i.p., Kitchen Kaboodle, Manor, Maison  and Relish.
